Six Years In: How Cooperative Villas Volleyball Club Forged a Volleyball Family in Badore-Ajah

Inside Cooperative Villas Estate, Badore-Ajah, under Eti-Osa Local Government, a volleyball club has been quietly turning a shared passion into a community since 2019. That is where you will find Cooperative Villas Volleyball Club (CVVC), founded by Mr. Felix Anikpo, and built, year by year, into one of the Island’s most consistent grassroots clubs.

From One Man’s Vision to a Growing Community

CVVC did not start with a packed roster or a polished setup. It started with Mr. Felix Anikpo’s belief that Badore-Ajah deserved a volleyball home.

Over the years, that belief has been matched by active patrons and energetic volleyball lovers who helped the club grow in both structure and numbers, turning a founder’s vision into a functioning, developing club.

Built on Discipline, Unity, Respect, and Teamwork

Ask anyone at CVVC what holds the club together, and these four words come up every time: Discipline, Unity, Respect, and Teamwork.

They are not just values on paper, they are embedded in the rules every member plays by. That structure is exactly what has turned CVVC into more than a volleyball club. It’s become a family, bound by a shared love for the game.

  1. A Club for Everyone

CVVC runs on an inclusive philosophy: both male and female players train and compete together, developing skills and building relationships inside the same community. And age is never treated as a barrier, students, young athletes, and veterans all find a place on the court. Training runs Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 4pm, giving players across different walks of life a consistent rhythm to show up to.

  1. Growth You Can See

Since 2019, CVVC has recorded steady, year-on-year growth in player numbers, proof that the club’s values are attracting people, not just retaining them. The club has also taken that growth beyond its home court, competing in friendly games across both the Island and the Mainland. Perhaps most importantly, CVVC has built a training pipeline that takes players from scratch to a standard level, preparing them to compete in inter-club competitions.

  1. The Honest Challenges

CVVC doesn’t shy away from naming what’s standing in the way of faster growth. The club’s biggest concern is the standard of its court and the lack of adequate training equipment, both of which limit how explosively players can develop. The court’s condition also makes training difficult in heavy rain, and the club has flagged a clear need: a court built to a standard where play can resume shortly after rainfall, rather than being shut down for the day.

Solving these challenges, the club believes, wouldn’t just improve training, it would attract more visiting teams and open the door to hosting real competitions.

Why CVVC’s Story Matters to VolleyVarse

CVVC is a reminder of what grassroots volleyball in Nigeria actually looks like: one person’s belief, a community that grew around it, and a club that keeps showing up despite real, practical limitations.

With continued support from individuals, organizations, and stakeholders who believe in grassroots sport, CVVC is confident it can reach even greater heights and VolleyVarse intends to be part of that journey.
