The Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) has recognised the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The recognition comes after Nigeria's historic qualification for its first-ever Olympic beach volleyball event.

Receiving the award, NVBF President Engineer Musa Nimrod praised the CAVB leadership under President Bouchra Hajij for the honour.

Nimrod said the recognition would encourage the players, coaches and the federation to work towards achieving more as Nigeria prepares for Los Angeles 2028.

The President of the CAVB Beach Volleyball Commission also announced plans for a busy 2027 beach volleyball calendar, with more competitions expected to give athletes greater playing time and international exposure.

The aim, according to the commission, is to provide athletes with the competition and preparation needed to compete at the highest level.

The Nigeria Volleyball Federation also received a special Award of Excellence for its activities throughout the year and its continued commitment to grassroots development.

In another recognition for Nigeria, CAVB President Mrs Bouchra Hajij honoured Engineer Habu Gumel for his outstanding contribution to volleyball in Africa and across the globe.

Gumel, widely regarded as Nigeria's father of volleyball, is also the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee.

The recognition of both the federation and Gumel comes at an important time for Nigerian volleyball, with the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics now providing another major target for the sport.
