Traffic still decides half the experience, so location and reliability matter as much as the court itself.

This court is for most serious and social players on the Island. International-standard courts (the club consistently markets them as such and the play level backs it up). Sessions run Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays from around 5–6 pm.
Surface: Proper, well-maintained hard court built for volleyball, clean, consistent bounce, not the cracked concrete you see in many public spots.
Access: Club-based. You join (they are open to new members via their form/email), pay whatever the current contribution is, and you are in. Not a walk-up free court.
Vibe & who plays: “Cruise and volleyball.”
Bankers, doctors, engineers, lawyers, lecturers, students, actual competitive players, and veterans who’ve worn national colours. Networking happens naturally after sets. The energy is serious enough to improve your game but relaxed enough that people stay for the company. They host the Thunder Games (recent editions still drawing strong fields including Amuwo Spikers, Legacy, and others). If you want high-level recreational or competitive play on the Island without drama, this is it.
2. Teslim Balogun Stadium Volleyball Court (Surulere):
The mainland workhorse and tournament stage. Outdoor court gets heavy use; indoor sports hall is also available. Lagos State Sports Commission manages it. In 2026 alone it hosted the National School Volleyball Championships and remains the default venue for club showdowns and big events.
Surface: Standard outdoor hard court (plus indoor option). Functional and tournament-ready rather than flashy.
Access: Book through the official LSSC portal (facilities.lssc.lg.gov.ng). Weekend pickup games and club sessions are common, show up and ask who is organising the next set. Small maintenance fees sometimes apply.
Vibe & who plays: Pure Lagos sports energy.
It is home to Legacy volleyball club, and Diamond Sports Management Volleyball Academy. Samaritan's feet kids train here as well as the Lagos state teams (Junior and Senior). It can feel chaotic on big days, but the level is high and the atmosphere is competitive without being exclusive. This is where you go when you want to test yourself against people who train properly.
One of the better-maintained public options after the 2025 renovations. Lagos State Sports Trust Fund fixed the volleyball court (along with basketball, handball, tennis, and the Olympic-sized pool). Further indoor hall work was still progressing into mid-2026.
Surface: Renovated outdoor hard court, noticeably better than pre-2025 condition.
Access: Public-facing sports complex. Reasonable entry/usage fees. Easy for students and nearby residents. Book or just turn up during open hours.
Vibe & who plays: Grassroots-to-serious transition zone. Athletes in development, university and college players, local coaches, and regulars who treat it like a training base. Less “Island social” than Lekki, more “we came to work.”

Vibe & who plays: It is home to Phoenix volleyball academy, and Volleyball crush volleyball club.
5. Abesan Mini Stadium Volleyball Court (Abesan Estate, Ipaja area)
The solid community option on the far west side. Simple but functional outdoor court that locals actually use.
Surface: Standard outdoor hard court. Nothing fancy, but playable.
Access: Very open and affordable (or free with minimal gate fee). Easy for people living in Alimosho, Ipaja, and surrounding areas.
Vibe & who plays: Neighbourhood and grassroots. Local players, weekend groups, people who just want to spike without travelling across the city. Street friendly volleyball club is located here.
Less polished, more authentic “come and play” energy. Ideal if you are not chasing rankings or networking and just need a consistent local court.
Lagos Volleyball Insider Tips:
Traffic is still the real opponent. Island courts (Lekki) are brutal if you are coming from the mainland after 4 pm. Surulere/Yaba are more central for many.
Bring your own water and decent shoes. Public courts can get hot and dusty, private ones are better maintained.
Beach volleyball still thrives at Elegushi and Landmark (sand nets set up by vendors, especially weekends), but that is a different game.
Clubs like Lekki VC and others remain the fastest way to consistent high-level play. Public facilities (Teslim, Rowe Park) are better than they were a few years ago thanks to ongoing renovations.
