The Unwritten Rules of volleyball

Volleyball has official rules, but every player knows there are also a few unwritten rules you learn once you start playing.

1. Call the ball! 📢

If you’re taking it, say “Mine!” Don’t assume your teammate knows.

2. Don’t blame your teammate for one mistake.

They missed the receive? Shanked the ball? It happens. Next ball.

3. Celebrate your teammates.

A good block, a crazy save, or a perfect set deserves a reaction. Energy spreads across the court.

4. Respect the person keeping the ball alive.

Not every highlight is a spike. Sometimes that libero making three impossible saves is the reason the rally is still going.

5. Don't stop playing until the ball is actually down.

That ball you thought was going out might just come back in. Stay ready.

6. What happens on the court stays on the court.

Teammates will argue, mistakes will happen and matches can get heated. But when the game is over, leave the drama there.

And finally…

Respect the game, respect your teammates, respect your opponents — and always be ready for the next ball. 🏐
